God's Goodness

Why do we so quickly forget God's goodness? The Lord has answered two prayers for me this week. The first one being that he has aloud us to sell Michael's old pickup truck. We really don't need 3 vehicles, plus this will allow us to pay off our camper!!! Second, I heard today at work that a company that I had tried to get on board with, before I went to work at Grace, is taking over our facility. I have heard nothing but good things about this company. I can't wait to see what door the Lord will open next! To top it all off, I get to go and watch Tanner play some ball tomorrow. I ask this question earlier, but it is really for me to ask myself. The Lord is always there, always listening, always waiting on us to ask him for what we need. The devil loves to put that little seed of doubt in your head that God will not answer this prayer. Shame on us for not having more faith for what we need and thankfulness for what we have.

Dementia + full moon = not a good day

If anyone has ever worked in a nursing home, you know that there are days when there has to be a full moon. The morning started out pretty quite. It all went downhill after that. One resident kept asking about a program that she thought was tonight, another was talking to her husband in California asking him when they were going to get their house??????? It truly is sad to see the effects of dementia on a person. They are trapped in their own mind, in a different time. There is no need to reorient them to the actual facts, they will forget in a minute or less. Somewhere you have to find a fine line to walk. You try not to lie, yet you can't tell them that their mother has died over and over again. You try to change the subject, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Both of my grandfathers died of a physical illness, one grandmother died of a stroke. I do have one grandma who is still living. She is the only grandparent that I have left, and she doesn't know me. To end the day, I received a phone call from a family member that you can never please. So, I grabbed a Reese Egg and called it a day. Days like today are the reason you can say that Long Term Care is a calling!

Precious Memories

For the past few days my grandma has really been on my mind. She passed away in September and I miss her so much. Maybe it is the upcoming Spring, which means flowers, which she loved! If I really think about it, everything I know I learned from her. She taught my mom, and then she taught me. I never heard my Grandma gripe about housework or cooking. She just did it. That right there is enough to learn! She was not a loud, mouthy lady. She was quite, very independent, loving, caring, had a green thumb that was out of this world, and a great cook!! I just wonder if she really knew how much she was loved. If only I could hear her tell me to "behave myself" again. Miss ya Grandma!

Life is good!

What a weekend this has been! I was very busy cooking for the Wildgame Supper at church, cleaning my very lived in house, and also cooking for a ladies recipe swap at Erin's house. As if that was not enough of a blessing, I got to eat lunch with some great friends after church today. I really do not deserve all of these blessings that the Lord has given to me. Sometimes life can rob you of your song, I am so glad that in His timing, it will return. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to lose our song while we find ourself!

Welcome Bella!

Well if anyone knows us you know that we are all boys around here. I had really hoped for a daughter, but it wasn't in the stars I guess. Now I just pray for great Daughter in Laws that will not stick me in a home at the first sign of dementia! Now at least I have one other female on our little place that we call home, Bella. She has pretty black hair, brown eyes and already minds better than the boys on some things! She is about 12 to 14 weeks old now. Ok, she is a dog. A German Shepard puppy to be exact. Chance had been wanting one and we had been looking for one that was not $600! This little girl had wondered up to someones house right before Christmas. They had placed posters in the area, with no one contacting them. So they decided to place an ad in the paper to give her away. Lucky for us, we caught the ad early and well, you know the rest of the story. So now we are up to 4 dogs, 15 chickens, 9 cows,..... enough is enough!!!

What a weekend!

I have had the weekend that I have been longing for for weeks!! Laying around the house not having to go anywhere or do anywhere was great. Although I did get a little case of cabin fever by Saturday afternoon. Michael and Chance had been gone hunting since Wednesday, so it has been just me and my little man. I was afraid to drive to church this morning, did not know how the roads were. Afterwards, I heard that they were not bad. That made me feel real good about missing. We did get out in the snow and play with the sled and my neighbors. That is always fun. You will have to take my word for it, Michael took my camera hunting. Like we need another picture of a dead duck!!! Well I guess it is back to work in the morning. I enjoyed it while it lasted!!

Peer pressure

Well I have given in to all of my peers who have a blog spot!! Thanks to my neighbor and friend being a tech teacher, (thanks Erin), I was able to be walked thru step by step. It is great to have friends who are neighbors! Many times I have called while in the middle of cooking after realizing I did not have an ingredient, only to have her come to the rescue. Who knows how often I will update my blog, heaven knows that I always have something to talk about, so surely I can just write about it instead! I guess we will all have to wait and see. I can promise you that I am not quite as crafty as my friend Robin, so don't be looking for any of that here!!
